Of all the existing "Genji" manuscripts, 90 percent were compiled by poet Fujiwara no Sadaie (1162-1241) in the Kamakura Period. As the Osawa manuscript includes content that differs with the Fujiwara manuscript, it may provide researchers clues on how the ancient story was passed down through the centuries.
